The reason for this is that the cabinets are not edge-sealed or the edge-sealing process or materials are not in place, and the quality of the furniture created is much worse.
Do custom furniture in our daily life need edge sealing? What are the benefits of edge sealing? What materials are furniture edge banding strips made of? Let's learn about it with the editor today!
Benefits of edge sealing of boards
Decorative effect
If the wardrobe board is not edge-sealed, then the wardrobe will not look very good after it is made, especially when the cross section is exposed, and suddenly the bedroom feels downgraded. If the cross section of the wardrobe board is exposed, there will be many fine textures, and it is easy to hide dirt inside. After being damp and absorbing water, it is also easy to mold, which will affect the appearance.
Controlling formaldehyde release
Another point that everyone is more concerned about is the formaldehyde release of wood furniture. If the indoor formaldehyde concentration exceeds the standard, it may cause physical discomfort, such as skin sensitivity, throat discomfort, eye irritation, etc., and in severe cases it may also cause cancer. So what is the relationship between wardrobe board edge sealing and formaldehyde release? In fact, if the wardrobe board edge sealing is done well, the entire board will be tightly wrapped, the formaldehyde release rate will be slowed down, and the indoor air quality can also be improved from the side.
Board edge sealing to alleviate formaldehyde release
Some consumers think that the edge banding feels that the internal formaldehyde has been sealed, so they think that no matter how cheap they buy, what grade of board, it will not affect home life. In fact, it is very wrong! For furniture that is used for a long time, whether the board meets environmental protection requirements or whether the board does not release harmful substances, edge sealing is very important! Whether the edge sealing is done well is also an effective basis for testing a brand.
The same E1-level board, one-side edge sealing and four-side edge sealing are both E1-level, but the release after one-side edge sealing is 1, and the release after four-side edge sealing is 0.7. Some people would say that they release the same amount of odor if placed indoors for 10 years, so it doesn't matter. However, because the house is ventilated, the same hourly release amount can be different. In other words, in this hour, you smell the difference between 1 and 0.7.
The formaldehyde release cycle of the board is as long as 15 years. The edge banding treatment only blocks part of the odor volatilization, just like the original large water flow becomes a long stream, and the formaldehyde is still released.
Edge banding materials
1. Wooden edge banding, such as birch, oak, etc., many high-end home furnishings will use this for edge banding, and the price is high.
2. PVC edge banding, with polypropylene or polyvinyl chloride as raw materials, can be processed into wood grain, plain color, and two-color. It is used for low-end and medium-end furniture, which is relatively soft and easy to construct. The disadvantage is that it is not easy to bond and is easy to debond in the later stage.
3. Melamine edge banding, with paper printed with various wood grains, leather, and stone grains as the base, and then impregnated and solidified with modified melamine fat to form paper edge banding. There are also metal edge banding strips, but the usage rate is not very high.
Manual edge banding methods
There are two manual edge banding methods currently used: glue sealing and U-shaped buckle edge.
1. Glue sealing: There are three main types of glue: universal glue, hot melt glue, and white latex. The best effect is hot melt glue.
2. U-shaped buckle edge: There are U-shaped buckle edges on both sides of the edge banding strip, which can be directly buckled on the cut wardrobe board. It is convenient and practical, but the durability is better.
Machine edge banding is more solid, beautiful, and smooth. This is also an advantage of custom furniture. Secondly, wardrobe edge banding can also play a decorative role.
